Dental Checkup

What we will do at your dental check-up :

  • A thorough examination of your mouth, teeth, gums, cheeks and tongue.
  • We will conduct an oral cancer screening at every check-up appointment and feel around your neck and jaw to make sure everything is healthy.
  • We will ask you questions about any problems or pain you’ve had since your last check-up.
  • We will give you advice on things you can do to improve your oral health, such as recommendations on your diet, how to brush, oral hygiene, etc…

Your dentist may also need to take x-rays of your mouth every 6 months to 2 years to check for any hidden problems, such as decay and bone loss due to gum disease.

If you have a build-up of plaque, stain, or calculus (old term tartar) you may be referred to a qualified hygienist to perform a scale and polish which can be pre-booked straight after your visit with the dentist. Just ask the reception to book these appointments for the same day.

Following the NICE recall guidelines, your dentist will assess your risk and ask you to come back for your next checkup at the most appropriate interval for you, in order to maintain your dental health. If treatment is needed then you will have a detailed conversation and talk about your treatment options. You will always get a treatment plan and quote to take home with you. We always ask our patients to take their time to think about the options and book when they are ready. You can always call and ask your dentist if you have any more questions.
