What is BTX?

How does it work?
BTX works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the facial muscles. The muscles are less active and therefore appear smoother and softer.

Who is suitable for this treatment?

Is the treatment painful?
No, You may experience slight temporary discomfort or stinging sensation for a few seconds. We will talk you through what to expect prior to your treatment.

How will I look after the treatment?
There will be slight redness immediately following the treatment. Wrinkle softening is a straightforward procedure so you can even visit us during your lunch hour.

When will I notice a difference?
It starts to work in 2-5 days. The greatest effect is seen after about 1-2 weeks. At Kempston Dental Practice we will review you after 2 weeks and offer you a complimentary top up if we feel there will be a benefit. Everyone is different so each treatment will be specific to each patient.

How long will it last?
3-4 months depending on each individual’s own response. Repeat treatments have been shown to last longer.

Dermal Fillers

What are Dermal fillers?
The Dermal Fillers we use are a crystal-clear, non-animal gel based on a natural substance called hyaluronic acid. The gel is administered into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. How long will it last?
One of the great advantages of the dermal filler products is that they are long-lasting but not permanent.
How long a treatment holds its effect is very variable to each individual. Most patients choose to have a follow-up treatment six to nine months after an initial treatment of wrinkles or facial contouring.

After lip treatments, a repeat treatment is normally needed after about six months. You always have the choice to continue or change the combination of treatments, and the procedure can be repeated as often as you like. You are always in charge of your looks. Achieving the look you desire is as easy as it is quick. We would firstly start by applying a local anesthetic gel in the region. This will safely and painlessly allow us to artistically place a special ‘gel-like’ product into the lip borders, lip body and the mouth creases as appropriate. The result is instantaneous. When administered into the skin, the dermal filler produces volume that smoothes the wrinkle or fold shapes the facial contour or enhances the lips in a natural way.

I’m worried that I will end up with a ‘Trout Pout’?
Rest assured following an extensive assessment we will aim to meet your expectations being mindful not to over contour the lips. In this way, we can avoid over bulking out this sensitive area

After Treatment:
Immediately after the treatment, you can expect slight redness, swelling, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treated area so you may decide not to return to work that day. When it comes to lip augmentation, the swelling may last longer. Some patients experience swelling for about a week.

Can both these treatments be used together?
These treatments are complementary to each other and it has been reported that dermal filler products such as Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, Radiesse last longer when administered in combination with BTX. This is because the continuous movement of the muscles is eliminated by BTX, slowing the body’s breakdown of the filler.

Note: It is possible to have the anti-wrinkle treatment and dermal filler treatment done at the same appointment.
